Psalm 70 (Listen)

70:1   Make haste, O God, to deliver me!
    O LORD, make haste to help me!
  Let them be put to shame and confusion
    who seek my life!
  Let them be turned back and brought to dishonor
    who delight in my hurt!
  Let them turn back because of their shame
    who say, “Aha, Aha!”
  May all who seek you
    rejoice and be glad in you!
  May those who love your salvation
    say evermore, “God is great!”
  But I am poor and needy;
    hasten to me, O God!
  You are my help and my deliverer;
    O LORD, do not delay!

Devotional:

Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; let those who love your salvation continually say, “God is great!” I am oppressed and needy; hurry to me, God. You are my help and my deliverer; Lord, do not delay. (Psalm 70:4-5 CSB)

We all want to be better. We want to be happy people who have lives that reflect the joy of our salvation. The road to rejoicing, though, needs to be traveled with a great deal of humility and a recognition that we don’t always feel the joy we seek. We are all poor and needy. When life presses in on us, we want a quick solution — an answer that sometimes seems to never come. Seek God in the waiting. Let your praise overcome your impatience and preach God’s greatness into your heart as you await the help God will bring in His timing. Let patience reveal that God is greater than all our needs.

Pray it: Jesus, I thank you for your promise to be with us until the end of the age and also for your promise to come – soon. Help me to both be encouraged as I wait and to long for the day of your return to come soon. Come, Lord Jesus, come. Amen.
